Walter "Wally" Treitline Obituary

Walter Ray Treitline, 81, of Page, ND, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025, at HIA Heather’s House in Fargo.

Walter was born December 5, 1944 in Valley City, North Dakota to Willard and Flora (Williams) Treitline. He was raised on a farm near Wimbledon, ND. He was educated and graduated from Wimbledon High School in 1962, then attended a quarter at NDSU. He joined the National Guard on March 18, 1963, and finished his enlistment on December 9, 1968. While working at a gas station in Valley City, Walter met Karen Suhr at the roller-skating rink. The couple was married on June 25, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Page, ND. Walter was employed by Palmer and Galen Satrom Farms near Page. In the 1970’s, the couple purchased the John Suhr farm north of Page. He added an addition to the farmhouse, as well as building the horse barn and many other buildings on the farm. Many of the buildings were made from lumber reclaimed from old buildings he tore down. In the early 1980’s, Walter decided to rent out his farmland and went to work for Patterson Oil in Page, ND. Over the years, Walter was employed as a farmhand for John and Duane Dows, a service mechanic and fuel truck driver at Page Oil, and a seasonal worker for Sherwood and Steve Johnson.

Walter served on the Rochester Township Board, Cass County, and also helped rebuild the Page Café. Walter never really retired, always caring for his family, a priority.

Walter loved the outdoors, with fishing being his favorite hobby. But his greatest joy was his granddaughter and attending her many activities. Walter and his granddaughter, Reese, spent many happy hours together. She remembers Walter being quite the jokester, but when it came to the farm, he was a very hard worker. They enjoyed his baked treats often, monster cookies and Rice Krispie bars. Holidays were special family times with many competitive games of Kings in the Corner.

Walter is survived by his wife, Karen of Page, ND; daughters, Teresa (Steve) Laaveg of Argusville, ND, Tammy Treitline of Page, ND; granddaughter, Reese Laaveg of Argusville, ND; siblings, Robert “Bobby” (Sheryl) Treitline of Dickinson, ND, Shirley Larson also of Dickinson, ND; and many sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William (Sonny) Treitline, and nephew, Duane Treitline.

The family would like to thank the Roger Maris Cancer Center, HIA Hospice, and HIA Heather’s House for the wonderful care they provided Walter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to HIA Hospice or HIA Heather’s House.
