Walter Dewerff

   Walter Dewerff, 81, passed away peacefully at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home in Lisbon on March 2, 2025.  

   Walter Lewis Dewerff was born July 31, 1943 to Elmer Sr. and Crystal (Carlson) Dewerff. The family lived at Gardner, North Dakota for two years and then moved to a farm at Embden, North Dakota. Walter served his country in the Army for four years in Vietnam. While there he worked at the water purification plant. Walter always was very proud of his time in the Army.

   When Walter came home from Vietnam, he returned to the farm and worked for many years as a farm laborer for Lyle and Eileen Schultz. In the late 90’s he moved to Fargo but continued to work for Lyle and Eileen for several years.

   In March 2018, Walter moved to the Veteran’s Home in Lisbon. He enjoyed the company, the pinochle games, bingo and the outings the home arranged. The attention from the nurses and other staff was a real treat for him.

   Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing bingo, and above all, playing with his younger nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed a good home-cooked meal. And, as the ladies at the Veteran’s Home said, “He will be missed.”

   Walter is survived by brothers John (Kay) and Elmer Jr. and sisters Emma Burke, Ida (Tom) Dallmann, Karen Hennes, Sandra (Clyde) Dallmann, and Susan. He is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews, 32 great-nieces and nephews and 4 great-great-nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Sr. and Crystal Dewerff, brother and sister-in-law Stanley and June Dewerff, brother Curtis, nephews Kristopher Burke, Nicholaus Coffey, and Jerry Dallmann, niece Crystal, and brother-in-law Doug Hennes.

Visitation:  Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Memorial Service:  Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Burial:  Casselton Cemetery  in the spring of 2025.
