Virginia (Ginny) Barclay-Walter Obituary

Virginia Lee Barclay-Walter, 76, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at St. Catherine North in Fargo, North Dakota, under hospice care. Virginia was born on July 15, 1949, in New Rockford, North Dakota, to Annie and Vilias “Jim” Baker.

Virginia spent much of her life rooted in North Dakota, where she built a life centered on family, hard work, and community. She lived on a farm in Binford, North Dakota, where she and her late husband, Richard Barclay, raised their family. Together, Virginia and Richard owned and operated the café and welding shop in Binford, North Dakota, becoming familiar and friendly faces to many in the community.

Later, the family relocated to West Fargo, North Dakota, due to Richard’s work. While there, Virginia continued her passion for serving others by running the Stockyard Cafe, where her cooking and welcoming spirit brought people together until Richard’s passing. Later in life, she remarried Verle Walter, and together they shared many years surrounded by family and friends.

Virginia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing bingo, going camping, dancing, cooking, and spending time with those she loved most. She also proudly supported causes close to her heart, including participating in the Cowboy Up Ride to prevent cancer. Above all, Virginia treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Verle Walter; her children: Kevin (Amie) Barclay, Laura (Roy) Harding, Brenda (Shannon) Hoyt, Barbara (Don) Andel; grandchildren, Courtney (Cole) Luchsinger, Brody (Addison Reed) Barclay, Sheldon Harding, Lacey (Chad) Vincent, Saddie (Jordan Bolstad) Harding, Tyrel (Taylor) Harding, Callie Harding, Harle (Beth Erickson) Andel, and Paige (Nick) Nybo; great-grandchildren, Rowan Luchsinger, Peyton Brandvold, Cole Vincent, Colt Leuhring, Kellen Vincent, Aubrie Young, Cooper Young, Ivory Nybo, and Laikyn Nybo; and a brother and sister, James Baker and Sally (Allan) Fitz.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Barclay, and her parents, Annie and Vilias “Jim” Baker.

Virginia will be remembered for her warm heart, strong work ethic, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ethos Hospice Care for their compassionate support and guidance during Virginia’s final days. They would also like to thank the staff at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home for the kindness, care, and comfort they provided during the year she resided there.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McHenry, North Dakota. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. Coffee and bars will be served following the service as family and friends gather to share memories and celebrate Virginia’s life.
