Victor Herman Obituary

Victor Alan Herman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, following a sudden and brief illness. Born on July 10, 1950, to Charolette and Victor Joseph Herman, Alan was raised in Hardwood, North Dakota, where he attended high school and began shaping the life of resilience and warmth that those around him came to cherish.

Alan proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he met his first wife, Fay Etta Humphrey. They married on September 26, 1970, and built a life together in Fargo, North Dakota, welcoming two children, Jonathan and Samantha Herman.

On May 1, 1982, Alan married Karen Nelson and embarked on a career in electrical engineering and maintenance. His work took him and his family across the country, where he applied his skills with dedication and ingenuity.

In 2003, life brought Alan back to North Dakota, where he met Tamra Jo Monsen. They married on July 2, 2005, and settled in South Dakota. Alan embraced his role as a stepfather to Tamra’s children—Robert Gipson, Terryl Gipson, Dakota Joyner, and Brandilee Joyner—with love and humor.

After decades of hard work across multiple industries, Alan retired in Sisseton, South Dakota. He spent his days enjoying computer games, classic films, and sharing laughter with the nurses at Tekakwitha Living Center—where his playful spirit and ornery charm made him a favorite.

Alan was preceded in death by his first wife Fay Etta Herman, his wife Tamra Jo Herman, his parents Charolette and Victor Herman, and his brother Michael Herman.

He is survived by his brother James Herman, his children and stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the VA or the Wounded Warrior Project, in honor of Alan’s service and lifelong support for fellow veterans.
