Vern Williams Obituary

Vern L. Williams, 92, of Fargo, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loving family at his home on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

Vern was born May 14th, 1928, in Jamestown, ND to Harvey and Celia (Coil) Williams.  Vern married Ruth Willey on August 15th, 1947.  They met at a get together where Ruth was playing in her father’s band.  After being wed, they lived 5 years on his parents place in a home they remodeled from a box car.  They farmed/ranched in Cleveland and Milnor, ND for 46 years.  The couple retired in 1993.  Once the farm/ranch was purchased  by their grandson, they moved to Kindred, ND to live for 8 years.  Eventually they moved to their current home at One Oak Place in Fargo.

Vern was always a go-getter.  He loved to keep busy doing something on the farm/ranch and his eyes would light up with the opportunity to still ride horse at the age of 90.  Some family teasingly called him “Stormin Norman” and “Father Pedro”.

Family was very important to Vern.  He cherished all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved holding in his arms, all new additions to the family and never turned down an opportunity to do so.  His family learned many life lessons from him, including a good work ethic which they will continue to pass down.

Vern and Ruth enjoyed traveling the country together and with other family members in their motorhomes.  They attended yearly family reunions for nearly 40 years and also spent many winters in their Texas home.

Vern is survived by Ruth, his wife of almost 73 years.  Children:  Darlene (Bill) Larson,  Elaine (Phil) Murchie,  Lyle (Nancy) Williams,  Keith Williams,  Kari (Mark) Miller and Janel (Scott) Kraig.  There are 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Vern’s youngest brother, Kenneth Williams, Sr, also survive.

As per Vern’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.  He wished for his ashes to be placed on the Milnor homestead,

the home and the land that he loved and lived on for most of his life.
