Thomas Grady

Tom Grady, 89, West Fargo, ND passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at his home.

Thomas Joseph Grady was born on Feb. 28, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN to William J. and Florence (McNamara) Grady.  He was raised in Minneapolis and educated at St. Bridget’s and North High School.  He joined the US Air Force on January 8, 1953 where he served during the Korean Conflict, was stationed in England and several bases in the US for 20 years.  After retiring from the Air Force in 1973, he drove trucks for 18 years, the last 14 of which was for Lavell Lumber. 

Tom married Doreen Boyd and to this union 5 children were born; Stephen, Sheryl, Tereena, Kerry and Renae.  They divorced and in 1970 he married Ruth Leist Anderson in Dilworth, MN, where he was “Gramps” to her five children: Diane, Brian, Peggy, Vicki and Debra.  Tom also had 8 grandchildren from his first marriage, 15 grandchildren from his second marriage and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Jean Rose.

Tom enjoyed watching the MN Twins and MN Vikings.  He wasn’t rich and was never so broke, that he couldn’t buy a “twister” to lick on the way home from Dairy Queen. 

He married Virginia “Gina” Roden Denis Merrill on April 11, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo.  Her children (Angie, Christopher, Stewart and Marcy) became part of Tom’s family as well. On their first wedding anniversary, Tom and Virginia made a trip to Ireland where he kissed the Blarney Stone and had enough “blarney” to last the rest of his life.  

Memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center and Faith Journey Lutheran Church.

Funeral: Friday, Aug. 19, 2022 at 11 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior.

Interment: Friday at 2 PM at Fargo National Cemetery.
