Steven Craig Frankhauser passed away peacefully at HIA Heather’s House on March 22nd, 2026, surrounded by people he loved and who loved him after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on August 1st, 1968, to Curt and Kathy Frankhauser. He spent his youth moving frequently and lived in places like; Alaska, Maryland, various North Dakota and Minnesota cities. He eventually landed in West Fargo, North Dakota, where he graduated from West Fargo High School in 1987. In 1990, he married Teresa (DeVries) Frankhauser. They were married for 22 years and together they had three beautiful children: Alexis, Baylee, and Casey. They lived in Rapid City, South Dakota from 1992 to 1999 before moving back to North Dakota. From his children, he was blessed with three grandchildren: Ella, Loralai, and Thomas. Most recently, he fell in love again with Sherri Schonert, and they have been engaged for the past 8 years. Together, they have built a beautiful life. While Steve worked for various companies in his life, he spent majority years with Pan-O-Gold Baking Co from 1990 to 1999 and again from 2012 to 2022. In 2022, he transitioned to driving for UNFI, where he was appointed as the union steward, until he retired early recently due to illness. He prided himself on being a professional driver; he truly loved driving truck.
Steve had many passions. In his youth, he was a great wrestler and passed that passion down to his son, Casey. He loved to hunt deer and pheasant on the Frankhauser farm, particularly with his dad and son. He enjoyed motorcycles and organized a memorial bike ride for the past several years for a friend he lost. He always enjoyed a good vehicle from his Fiero to his Corvette. He appreciated a good song and was always showing his kids his latest finds in music. He had a sense of style and was always well dressed. Near the end, a Sandy’s donut and iced coffee were some of his favorite things.
He is survived by his Fiancé Sherri Schonert; his children Alexis (Chad) Blackwelder, Baylee (Joe) Schuch, and Casey Frankhauser; his grandchildren Ella Blackwelder, Loralai Schuch, and Thomas Schuch; his parents Curt and Kathy Frankhauser; his sister Joy (Mark) Raven; his ex-spouse Teresa (DeVries) Frankhauser; Sherri’s children Ty (Maggie) Schonert and Taryn (Bryce) Manthe; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents Alice and Joe Frankhauser and Evelyn and Edwin Olson.
