Stan Guler Obituary

Stan Guler, age 79, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2022, at Essentia Health Fargo, ND.

Stanley Christ Guler was born May 28, 1942, in New Rockford, ND to Peter and Wilma (Christ) Guler.  Stan graduated from New Rockford High School in 1960.  He achieved an associate degree in Auto Body at North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND, in 1962.

Stan married Connie Judine Spoonheim on June 2, 1967, in Northwood, ND, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  They made their home in Northwood where he worked at Krabbenhoft Chevrolet, and later operated his own auto body shop.  He was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter with Northwood Fire Department.

Stan was hired at American Family Insurance in Fargo, so the family moved from Northwood to West Fargo in 1973. He became an active member at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church.  Stan also joined the West Fargo Volunteer Fire Department,  served on the West Fargo Park Board, the West Fargo Hockey Association and was a member of the Cass Country Wildlife Club.

He retired from American Family Insurance in March of 2007.   He started working at RCIS Crop Hail Insurance shortly after his “retirement” and he also drove bus for the West Fargo School District.

Family and family time was very important to him and was a priority in his life.  He enjoyed gardening and making BLTs with the tomatoes and lettuce he had grown (BLT’s & fresh Corn on the cob were a favorite of his).  He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing - he loved his trips to Canada and Alaska over the years, and the friends he went with made it even more special to him.  Candy and sweets were on the top of the list of his favorite things – Stan always had a stash of candy and was happy to share.  Snaps, black licorice in any form, Sandy’s Donuts and caramels rolls (from Carr’s in Ottertail when at the lake) were bought often by him and when he did, he didn’t hold back.

Stan loved watching and playing sports.  He had played baseball, football and basketball in high school, but baseball was his true passion.  He played baseball and softball as an adult and coached Babe Ruth baseball and soccer. If the tv was on it was tuned to sports.  He loved baseball/softball so much, he later became an Umpire.  However, watching his children’s and later his grandchildren’s games were one of his favorite things to do,  and in doing so he developed a love for hockey.  He and Connie always supported every child on the team.   Always a competitor, he played countless games of Bean Bags/Corn Hole and was pretty much semi pro.

Stan always had time for people, even people he didn’t know.  His kindness and love shown in his eyes and people were drawn to him.  He was a great storyteller, and his laugh was contagious.  Please know that if you knew Stan, you meant the world to him, and he truly appreciated knowing you!

Stan is survived by his wife Connie, daughter Danyell, sons Darren and Dustin, sisters Joan (Arlin) Prochnow and LeRae (Bill) Stratton, and grandchildren Paige, Macy, Gavin and Mia.  He was preceded in death by his father Peter and mother Wilma.

Our family would like to thank ALL the wonderful staff at Essentia Health.

Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you.     John 14:27a.
