Sharon Carpenter

Sharon Elaine Carpenter, 72, of Horace, ND passed away on May 10, 2026, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo.

Sharon was born April 15, 1954, in Britton, SD, to Clifford and Mildred Anderson. She grew up on a farm in Brampton, ND, with her 6 brothers and sisters, and graduated from Sargent Central High School in 1972. She went on to the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1973.

Sharon married Dwight Carpenter at the Brampton Lutheran Church on November 21, 1975, and they lived on the Carpenter family farm outside of Fingal, ND where Dwight farmed and Sharon worked as an LPN in Valley City, ND, and they had 2 children. They moved to Fargo, ND in 1986 after Dwight got a job at Dakota Aero Tech, and then settled in Horace, ND in 1987. Sharon worked as an LPN at nursing homes in Fargo, including Eventide and Villa Maria, until she retired.

Sharon enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, and doing the puzzles in the newspaper. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to the friends of her children, who found an extra mom in Sharon. She was also a “grandma” to the children of friends and neighbors, in addition to her granddaughter, Bailey.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Jody Carpenter; son, Adam (JaNell) Carpenter; granddaughter, Bailey Carpenter; brothers, Jim Anderson, Terry Anderson, and Wayne Anderson; sisters, Connie (John) Dimmer, Barb (Steve) Bliven, Janet (Danny) Veer; brother-in-law, Dean (Helen) Carpenter; sisters-in-law, Denise (Kevin) Larson and Doreen Gordon; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; an aunt; and her many “adopted” children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight; her parents and parents-in-law; her grandparents; and a niece.

Visitation: Friday, May 15, 2026, from 11-1 pm at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
