Scott Provolt, 69, of Fargo, North Dakota, died at Sanford Hospital on Friday, May 1, 2026 with his family by his side.
Scott William Provolt was born May 17, 1956, to Gerald and Gladys (Newby) Provolt in Devils Lake, North Dakota. During his younger years, his family moved to Jamestown, where he later graduated from Jamestown High School. Following high school, he attended ND State School of Science in Wahpeton, studying architectural drafting.
Scott met the love of his life, Mariann Lako on a blind date – a meeting that proved to be the start of a lifelong partnership. They were married on November 20, 1976 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arthur, North Dakota. They built a life centered on family and raised two children, Jennifer and Brandon. They made their home in Valley City, North Dakota where Scott began his career working in the lumber industry. In 2015, he and Mariann moved to Fargo, where he continued his work at D&M Industries until his retirement on April 1, 2023. Throughout his career, he was respected in his field and served on the North Dakota Retail Lumbermen’s Board of Directors.
Scott was a man known for his thoughtful nature and deeply rooted beliefs. He took pride in his work, his home and especially his family. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend his children’s activities, and he found joy in caring for his yard and keeping his vehicles in top condition. He enjoyed his annual fishing trips and spent time golfing in his younger years. Baseball and UND Hockey were his favorite sports to watch. He and Mariann loved to go on cruises and explore new destinations.
Faith and service were important parts of Scott’s life. He was actively involved with his church family and was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club, always willing to give his time to help others.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mariann; daughter Jennifer (Ian) Musil; son Brandon (Sara); grandchildren, Charlotte, Simon, Cameron and Alexandra; brother-in-law Don Patzer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sheryl (John) Balster and Sandra Patzer.
