Ruth Garnas

Ruth Garnas, 90, Page, ND passed away on August 18, 2026 in Hawaii where and her husband, Don lived.

Ruth LaRue Speers Garnas was born on November 29, 1935, in Drake, North Dakota, to Howard and Clara Speers. She grew up with her younger sister, Ruby, and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she earned her teaching degree.

Ruth married the love of her life, Donald M. Garnas, on June 25, 1957. Together, they shared almost 70 years of marriage, building a life grounded in love, faith, and family. After living in La Crosse, Wisconsin, for two years, they moved with Ruth's parents to Page, North Dakota, in the fall of 1959 to begin their lives as a farming and ranching family.

Ruth's greatest joy was her family. She was the loving mother of Deborah (Don) Thorpe, Daniel Garnas, Darcy (Jim) Erickson, and David (Dawn) Garnas. She treasured her grandchildren: Dayton and Danae Thorpe; Amara (Ethan) Bischoff, Grace Garnas, and Nathalie (David) Todd; Jessica (Logan) Miller and Craig (Alyssa) Erickson; and Gage (Payton) Garnas, Jake (Courtney) Garnas, and Ruthie (Colton) Dickinson. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.

Ruth loved her family dearly and had a special place in her heart for little children and dogs. Her faith in the Lord was an important part of her life. A gifted watercolor artist, she found joy in painting and the beauty of flowers, especially her favorite-pink roses.

Ruth will be remembered for her deep faith, creativity, devotion to her family, and the warmth and love she shared with those around her.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 2 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior and reception to follow.
