Ruben Berg

Ruben Berg, 88, of West Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on March 2, 2026 at Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo, ND.

Ruben was born on February 14, 1938, to Reinhold and Kathryn Berg in Wing, ND. He learned the value of hard work by working with his family on farmsteads. This is where his love of “tinkering” began.

On February 10, 1961, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann Olson. Together they built a life rooted in love and laughter, establishing their home in West Fargo, ND where they raised their two children, Kim and Keith. They spent many summers camping on Long Lake, MN, later establishing a permanent spot on Star Lake at Frank’s Lodge (Ruben got into his fair share of trouble at Frank’s and was known by ALL campers).

Ruben worked for Coca-Cola in Moorhead, Minnesota, for 30 plus years and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his career. Outside of work, Ruben had a special gift for fixing just about anything — if something was broken, family and friends knew he was the one to call. His garage was his favorite place to spend time.

Ruben truly was the life of the party, often sharing the food he loved to make—German dishes, hearty soups, and fresh breads. He enjoyed having fun, telling stories, and bringing smiles to everyone around him. Music filled his life, especially polka music, and he could often be found enjoying a lively tune (with a beer in hand of course). His joyful spirit and easy laughter made every gathering brighter, although sometimes too much for Carol.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Berg of 59 years and his parents, Reinhold and Kathryn Berg and his sister Mary Unruh.

He is survived by his daughter Kim (Mark) Thompson and his son Keith (Penny) Berg, grandchildren Erika (Ron) Engelking, Justin (Stevi) Thompson, Mikayla (Ryan) Brockway, Dalton (Kaycee) Berg, and Deavon Berg (Alyssa Parsons) and great-grandchildren Ellie, Lily, Molly, Kaia, Ruby, Brantlee, Bristol, Brynn, Bennett, Brody and Baylor, and brother Burnell Berg, sister Lenora Folmer, and sister Sue Stockert.

Ruben’s memory will live on in the hearts of his children, siblings, extended family, and many friends. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared so freely.

A celebration of life will be on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 10:30 AM at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo.
