Roy Doerr Obituary

Roy Doerr, 80, Fargo, joined his wife Cheryl in heaven on September 12, 2021 following a short illness.

Roy Clifford Doerr, son of August and Rosa (Hausauer) was born on June 26, 1941 at Harvey, North Dakota.  His family moved to Bismarck where he lived until he entered the Army.  He served four years overseas and then returned to Bismarck to marry his high school sweetheart Cheryl Broeckel on April 20, 1963.  They moved to Minot where their son Jeff was born; then on to Colorado and Wyoming where Debbie and Brenda were born, respectively.  In 1978, they moved back to Minot where Roy worked for I Keating Furniture and Northern School Supply as a salesman.  After retiring, he continued getting to know new people through his job as courtesy driver for Honda in Minot and Rydell Honda in Grand Forks.

Roy loved golf, wedding dances, a good steak on the grill, building things out of wood, and spending time with his family.  He would make friends wherever he went and had many friends through bowling, poker games, softball, and golf.  He had a hole in one on Souris Golf Course in Minot and took third place with his team from The Rack in a Las Vegas national billiards tournament.   It was important to Dad to treat people with respect and do a job right. He would fix things whenever he could.  He often did home projects that he and Cheryl had seen on the home improvement shows.

Holding his cherished memory are his three children Jeffrey (Laurie) Doerr of Minot, Deborah (Craig) Tietz of Moorhead, MN; and Brenda (Ric) Hartje of Grand Forks; 7 grandchildren Bryan (Sierra) Doerr and Sean Doerr, Abby (Reid) Thomas and Cooper Tietz; Meghan, Lila, and Libby Hartje; and great grandchild Connor Doerr. Sister Florence (Marlin) Thor, and brother Harold (Jackie) Doerr.

Roy was greeted in heaven by his parents August and Rosa, wife Cheryl, brothers Jacob, Adolph (Spike), Reynold, Emil, Mel, and Al, sisters Theresa, Lea, and Dorothy and grandson Sam Hartje.

Memorial services will be Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 at 3 PM at West Funeral Home Chapel in West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.
