Rosella Elshaug, 82, of West Fargo formerly of Ashley, ND, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, in Sanford Health CHI in Fargo.
Rosella Stella Wilke was born December 7, 1937, at Belcourt, ND the daughter of John and Virginia (Jerome) Wilke. She was raised and attended school in Belcourt. The family moved to Cavalier, ND when she was a teenager. Rosella was employed there in a café and this is where she met Reuben Elshaug. They were married Nov. 18, 1956, in Cavalier, ND and lived in Hillsboro, ND. The family lived in various cities because of Reuben’s elevator jobs, including, Fergus Falls, MN, Peever, Gettysburg, Huron in SD and Ashley, in ND. Over the years, they had seven children: Lucy Elshaug, Bonny (Wayne) Varnson, Ronald Elshaug, Angela Reuben, Susan Schlenvogt, Catherine (Rocky) Sayler, and Collette Elshaug.
In the summers, Rosella and Reuben loved taking their children camping in the Black Hills, fishing at Lake Oahe, or touring a national park or monument. She enjoyed baking, gardening, bowling, crafts, reading, teaching CCD, a member of the church Altar Society and the VFW in Ashley, ND and an ardent Minnesota Twins fan..
She is survived by her seven children; much loved grandchildren: Jarrid Elshaug, Anthony (Maegin) Elshaug, Justin (Charlene) Varnson, Kyle (Katelin) Varnson, Shelby (Keaton) Hanevold, Jessica Chipera, Dylan (Skyla) Chipera, Tiffany (Bill) Solometo, Tyler (Katie) Schlenvogt, Jackie (Ben) Schlepp, Raquel (Justin) Gross, and Will Sayler; her great-grandchildren: Walker, Charlotte, Marek, Chrysta, Emmitt, Skye, Ike, Carmin, Adelynn, Arlan and Casmir; sisters: Lillian, Christine, Corrine, Shirley, & Grace and many nephews and nieces.
Preceding her in death: parents: John & Virginia Wilke; husband: Reuben on January 7, 2018; brothers: Leo, Francis, Marvin, Andrew; sisters: Georgaline and Charlotte.
We wish to thank Fr. Gary Luiten from Blessed Sacrament Catholic in West Fargo, who has been a spiritual light in this otherwise dark world, Willard Yellow Bird, Sanford Hospital and Hospice House for their excellent care and support over the last two weeks.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you leave donations at the church to be used for to be donated to Rosella"s favorite organization
