Ronald Samuelson Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Samuelson, age 88, died on Friday, November 8, 2024, at SMP Health St. Catherine South, Fargo, ND. Mr. Samuelson was born February 16, 1936, at the family farmstead in Silvesta Township, Walsh County, North Dakota, the son of Victor and Alida (Olson). He graduated from Adams High School, then enrolled at the University of North Dakota, graduating with an accounting major. He served on active duty with the US Army from November 1958 to November 1960 spending most of his active-duty time stationed in West Germany and was in the Army Reserve until honorably discharged in 1964.  He began employment with the US Treasury as an Internal Revenue Agent. In 1973, he began employment with Melland, Inc. in Jamestown, ND serving in the capacity of Comptroller.  He then became employed with the Federal Deposit Insurance in 1981 serving locations in North Platte, Nebraska and Grand Forks, North Dakota in addition to serving as an instructor frequently at the FDIC Training Center in Washington, DC. He retired from the FDIC as a Senior Examiner in 1996. Since retirement, he has continued to serve as a bank consultant on a part time basis. After retirement from the FDIC, he moved to Rural Adams, North Dakota where he lived until he moved to their present home in West Fargo, ND in 2008.

He married Harriet Rusten at Dovre Lutheran Church, Osnabrock, North Dakota on June 29, 1968. He loved to travel with family members having visited all fifty states in addition to visiting Western Europe, Mexico, and Canada each on several occasions.

He belonged to several organizations. They include Hope Lutheran Church, Adams American Legion Post 237, Jamestown Elks Lodge (Life Member), National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Fraternity, El Zagal Shrine (Life Member), Masonic Lodge and the Nort Dakota York Rite.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; one son, Jon of West Fargo, one brother, V. Allen Samuelson of Otter Tail City, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Loren; stepfather,  Silas Bjorg; and nephew Tim.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 AM, at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Adams, North Dakota.
