Ronald ‘Ron’ Laufman passed away on January 9, 2022, at the age of 77. He was born on November 2, 1944, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Raymond and Dorothy (Schroeder) Laufman and raised on a farm in Plummer, MN. Ron served in the US Army from 1963-1965. He worked for Aasand potato farm and Strata in Grafton, ND and JR Simplot in Minto, ND. In the mid 90’s he started working for JR Simplot in Moorhead, MN, retiring from there in 2011.
Ron married Char Spieker on September 5, 1994. They had many wonderful years together. He was Char’s best friend. There wasn’t anything Ron wouldn’t do for her, and she was grateful to have him in her life. He would help anyone who asked and needed assistance of some sort, but never wanted to bother people to assist him. He could fix most anything. Ron was a quiet man, a man of few words, patient, and had a dry sense of humor. He was a wonderful stepfather to Char’s son, Shane Spieker.
Ron really enjoyed gardening and had many bountiful ones, along with many weeds. He enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, going to casinos, watching westerns, police documentaries, ghost stories and history show. He also enjoyed watching the MN Twins. He liked going to pawn shops, rummage sales, and having a beer or two. He collected brass and called the pieces his treasures. Ron would read the Globe tabloid from front to back and stated if you want to know anything the truth was in the Globe. Ron was a member of the Moorhead American Legion and a lifetime member of the West Fargo VFW. He attended his grandchildren’s activities and looked forward to taking them out to lunch. He usually had a roll of quarters for each one as they liked going to places that had video games.
Ron is survived by his stepson: Shane (Kristina) Spieker, grandchildren Kaiden and Brynn, West Fargo, ND: sister Judy (Joel) Schmitz, Red Lake Falls, MN: nephew Seth (Ashley) Schmitz, Red Lake Falls, MN: sisters-in-law Han Laufman, Florida, Nancy (Terry) Peterson, West Fargo, and Kathy Forde, Amarillo TX; nieces Jennie (Reed) Maddox, Gainesville, Florida, and Teresa (Mike) Rumpee and son Joe, Woodbury, MN; and many other family members.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife Char, parents, grandparents, brother: Ken Laufman, special aunt: Verna Schroeder, along with other relatives.
