Ron Bye

Ronald Wayne Bye, 80, of Moorhead, formerly Coon Rapids, MN, died Monday, August 30, 2021 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. 

Ronnie was born July 1, 1941, in Moorhead,MN to Reuben and Joyce (Clemenson) Bye.  He grew up in the house his father built in Rustad, MN, attending school in Rustad, Comstock, and graduating from Moorhead High in 1959.  After high school, Ronnie served four years in the Army National Guard.  He attended InterState Business College from 1960 to 1962, and began his career in mortgages, savings & loans at Twin City Federal in Minneapolis.  On September 7, 1963, Ronnie married Nancy Brakke in Fargo, ND and together they made their home and raised their two children, Jon and Sheila, in Coon Rapids.  Ronnie retired in 1996, and he and Nancy moved back to the Red River Valley in 2013, taking pleasure in being back near extended family.

An avid gardener, Ronnie took pride in keeping the most spectacular yard and flower gardens. He loved decorating his home, which included the most fancy adorned garage.  Ronnie delighted in cooking for his family and friends, making the best Reuben sandwiches.  He enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards, reading, trips to Menards, and visiting with relatives, neighbors, and friends.  Ronnie treasured his time over the years with his “104th Lane family”.  From block parties to fishing trips and cruise vacations to softball games, he reveled in the block adventures.  As a loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather, Ronnie cherished time spent with his family. His humble, tender hearted and empathetic spirit will be sorely missed. 

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Moorhead, MN; his children Jon (Lorri) Bye, Blaine, MN and Sheila (Joe) Stadstad, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Alexis (Isaac) Lundberg, Natalie Bye, Erin (Taylor) Doeden, Nathan Bye, Charleigh Stadstad and great grandchildren, Abraham and Jude Lundberg; brother Clayton (Maxine) Bye of Ottertail, MN; sister Carol (Dennis) Krabbenhoft of Lake Park, MN; beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents.

We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Laura Nichols and her amazing team of nurses at the Moorhead Sanford Clinic and the Sanford home dialysis team in Fargo for their outstanding and compassionate care of Ronnie.  Thank you to Hospice of the Red River Valley for granting Ronnie’s wish to stay in his earthly home until he moved to his eternal home in heaven. 

His family suggests memorials to Hoff Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Service:  2 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 in Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service.

Interment:  Lower Wild Rice & Red River Cemetery, rural Hickson, ND
