Roger Rustad of Horace, ND, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Eventide in Fargo.
Roger Allan Rustad was born December 21, 1937. He was raised on a farm near Horace, ND, by his parents Martin and Nora (Bond) Rustad. He graduated from Horace High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Air National Guard in 1958. He spent two years in the Philippines and retired from the Air Guard in 1993 from his position as a full time Senior Master Sergeant. He had been a part of the Happy Hooligans and honor guard at Horace. Roger was also a full-time farmer, farming crops and beef cattle, retiring in the mid-1990s.
On November 27, 1964, he married Judy Nelson at Horace Lutheran Church Parsonage. They had one daughter, Rhonda.
Roger enjoyed spending time with family, especially grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to be outside and especially loved his day trips to the lake or riding around the countryside. He was a quiet man and would do anything for anyone. He was a charter member of the Horace Lions Club, a member of the Horace American Legion, Horace Senior Citizens Club, and twice won the Melvin Jones Award.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, Horace, ND; daughter, Rhonda (James) Weiand-Miller, Zimmerman, MN; grandchildren, Jayde (Nick) Parsons, Princeton, MN, Jett Weiand, St. Cloud, MN; and great-grandchildren, Jack Roger and Claire Aspen.
He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Dakota Weiand; his parents; and two sisters, Marlene and Janice.
Visitation: Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Horace Lutheran Church, Horace, ND.
Funeral: Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Horace Lutheran Church, Horace, ND.
Interment and Military Rites: Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Horace Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
