Roger Rogstad Obituary

Roger Rogstad, 69, Fargo, ND passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center.

Roger Allen Rogstad was born June 3, 1952 in Stanley, ND to Alfred and Jane (Korterud) Rogstad. He grew up on his family farm outside of Stanley. Roger attended Stanley High School and was active in Football, Wrestling, FFA and 4H. Following graduation in 1970, he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged. He then attended college in Williston, ND majoring in agricultural business. After obtaining his degree, Roger returned home to work on his family farm and many other endeavors through the years. He worked construction building roads and oil locations. He and four other friends were the founding owners of the Five Spot Bar. He worked as an Ag mediator, Insurance agent, Hotel owner, Mail carrier, and volunteered as a van driver for D.A.V.E. and Tri City Cares.

He met, Shelly (Johnson) Hauge in approximately 1990, in Stanley where they both lived. “The lights were low and the music was loud” as he enjoyed telling it. They married on January 1, 1992. They lived in Stanley raising the kids before moving to the family farm in 2005. They moved to West Fargo in 2012.

Roger adored his wife and loved traveling with her to numerous sporting events, cruises and tropical destinations. He and Shelly enjoyed their winters living in Arizona. He loved spending quality time with his grandchildren.

He wore many hats over the years, but the things that never changed were his kind demeaner and an easy smile. He took a genuine interest in everyone he met and so, he turned strangers to friends easily. He will be missed by a great many.

He is survived by his two stepchildren, Brandon (Desta) Hauge of Palermo; Lindsey (Tyler) Nelson of Oxbow; two grandchildren, Jack and Dexx Nelson; sister, Anne (Rogstad) Johnson of Minot; nephew, Mike Johnson; niece, Lisa (Johnson) Nelson; and many cousins.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Shelly Rogstad; father, Alfred Rogstad; mother, Jane Rogstad.

Memorials in honor of Roger can be sent to Knife River Lutheran Cemetery or Flickertail Village and Museum.

A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held at his family farm,  5815 79th Ave NW,  Palermo, North Dakota, on August 28th starting at Noon. A meal will be provided.
