Roger DuBois Obituary

Roger Dale DuBois
September 15, 1950 – February 18, 2026

Roger Dale DuBois was a truly remarkable man whose life was defined by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering work ethic. Standing 6 feet 7 inches tall, he was affectionately known as a gentle giant—his towering presence softened by a warm heart and quiet compassion. To many, he was simply “Uncle Roger,” a steady and reassuring presence who made everyone feel safe, welcome, and valued. He offered help freely and without recognition, embodying honesty, humility, and deep devotion to family. A gifted conversationalist, Roger could strike up a meaningful conversation with anyone, leaving each person feeling heard and important. His strength was matched only by his gentleness, and his steady love earned him the cherished title of “Papa Bear.”

Roger dedicated most of his life to the construction industry, where he took immense pride in his craftsmanship. Alongside his father, Stephen DuBois, and his brother, Quentin “Sam” DuBois, he helped establish DuBois & Sons Masonry (DSMI), a family-owned business that faithfully served the community for more than 25 years. The business stood as a reflection of Roger’s integrity, reliability, and commitment to excellence, and it became the foundation of a family legacy of builders that continues through generations.

On February 10, 1973, Roger married the love of his life, LeAnn Schelske, in Fargo, North Dakota. Together they built a life centered on love, partnership, and family. Later that year, they welcomed their son, Jonathan Dale, who inherited his father’s love of hunting and fishing, pride in building something meaningful, and natural gift for storytelling. With the arrival of their daughter, Danielle Nicole, in 1984, their family was complete. Danielle carries forward her father’s deep compassion for others, especially in healthcare, along with his unforgettable dance moves. Roger’s pride in his children only deepened as he welcomed Amy and Shawn into the family. His greatest joy was becoming a grandfather; greeting each grandchild for the first time was a moment he treasured beyond words.

Roger found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished visits to Medora and found peace at the lake, especially when surrounded by LeAnn and dear friends Dan and Janet Harrington. He was a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren, faithfully attending dance recitals and cheering from the sidelines at basketball, softball, and soccer games. In retirement, Roger discovered a passion for woodworking, particularly woodturning, creating countless handcrafted bowls, lamps, salt and pepper grinders, and pens that will be treasured for years to come.

Roger received compassionate care at Sheyenne Crossings, where he found not only dignity but also a sense of belonging. During his final nine months, Ethos Hospice provided exceptional comfort and support. The kindness shown to Roger by caregivers, friends, and family brought him great peace and meant more than words can express.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Carolyn DuBois; his brothers, Quentin “Sam” DuBois and Stephen “Steve” DuBois Jr.; his great-niece, Alicia Bernier; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Inez Schelske; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Thornberg.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, LeAnn; his children, Jon DuBois (Amy DuBois) and Danielle Erdmann (Shawn Erdmann); and his cherished grandchildren, Gabby and Charlie DuBois (Ashley Chase), and Shayla, Calissa, and Llewyn Erdmann. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sue DuBois; his sisters, Pat Erickson (Bob Erickson), Bonnie Walkin (Tom Walkin), and Annie Schmidt (Ed Schmidt); brother-in-law, Gary Thornberg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Roger will be forever remembered for his radiant “Sunrise Smile,” his strong and comforting hugs, and his beloved “Rogerisms.” Strong in body, gentle in spirit, and steadfast in love, his legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the countless lives he touched.
