Longtime West Fargo resident Rodney “Rod” Rieth passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, at the age of 82.
He was born to Carl and Mary Rieth in Valley City, ND on October 27, 1938. Rod attended school in Valley City and was a member of the Army National Guard. He then started his long sales career at Valley City Grocery. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Jayne Messmer. They moved to West Fargo in 1967 where Rod managed Brekke’s Fairway. Later, he worked for Gamble Robinson and in the late 1960’s as a salesman for Quality Meats and Seafood. He became president and co-owner of Quality Meats until his retirement in 2000.
Rod attended Holy Cross Catholic Church and enjoyed helping with their Fall Festival every October. He loved sports and played tennis from the time he was a young boy until the age of 70. He was a super fan of the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Twins, the NDSU Bison, and Phil Mickelson. His family, grandchildren, and friends were his greatest joy.
Rod is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jayne; his children, Rob Rieth, Chad (Dana) Rieth, Jodee Ekerberg (friend Matthew); his grandchildren, Jordan Ekerberg (fiancé Tailor Rudolph), Jenna Rieth, and Jacob Rieth; his sister, Viola Gorman of California, many nieces, nephews, and cousins; long-time neighbors and friends from 7th Street West and Edgewater Drive, and his special golf buddies.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald, Ed, Marv, twin brother Rodger, and son-in-law, Rob Ekerberg.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Sanford Hospice House for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, Rodney’s wishes were to have memorials sent to Friendship, Inc, 801 Page Drive, Fargo, ND 58103.

Visitation: Friday, March 26, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
Private Family Service: Friday, March 26, 2021 at 7:00 PM at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
Burial: Holy Cross South Cemetery, Fargo, ND at a later date.
