Robert John Ellenson, 68, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Sanford on Broadway surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born April 11, 1956, in Moorhead, MN to Harlan and Verna (Lyman) Ellenson. He grew up in rural Harwood, ND, and from a young age was always involved in helping on the farm. He graduated from West Fargo High School in 1974 and then attended Moorhead Technical College for Diesel Mechanics. He started his career rebuilding transmissions at AAMCO in Fargo, ND. He then transferred to the location in Sioux Falls, SD. From there, he moved to Chicago, IL, where he worked at Motra Transmissions for a couple of years. In 1986, he moved back home to Harwood, ND, because he did not want to miss the opportunity of watching his nephews and nieces grow up. He became the beloved uncle that was more than just that. He was their mentor, friend and the sunshine of their lives. He continued to rebuild transmissions locally until this past December when he could no longer work due to his health.
He is survived by his four sisters, Diane (Preston) Stephens, East Bethel, MN, Cheryl (Allen) Grenz, Tower City, ND, Shelly (Gerald) Neisen, and Jacqueline (Ronald) Larson, both of Harwood, ND; nephews, John (Shauna) Stephens, Robert (Dena) Stephens, Christopher (Mary) Stephens, Matthew Grenz, Ryan Grenz, Cody Grenz, Nicholas (Shannon) Neisen, and Gregory (Emily) Larson; nieces, Penny (David) Goldeman, Anne (Noah) Mack, Stephanie (James) Peterson, and Jessica (Davis) Dube; many great nephews/nieces; and his lifelong friend Curt Schmidt.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Michael Neisen.
