FARGO, ND - Robert L. Brodshaug, 93, passed away at Bethany Homes on February 17, 2025. He grew up on the Brodshaug family farm in Warren Township. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, including service in Japan. He married Jacqueline (Jackie) Qualley on Christmas Day, 1954. They farmed together in Cass County, moving to the Qualley homestead in 1968. They moved to West Fargo in 1987. He retired in 1996, becoming a “senior advisor” to the family farm.
Active in the Horace American Legion, Robert was a charter member of the Horace Lions Club. He was also an active member and leader of the Horace Lutheran Church. For decades, he searched for a solution to Sheyenne River flooding. As a manager for the Southeast Cass Water Resource District, he helped lead the planning and construction of the Sheyenne Diversion Project.
Robert enjoyed family trips throughout the country, touring many dams, parks, and factories. He and Jackie later enjoyed travel to China, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Israel, and Mexico. He loved hunting and fishing and was a very competitive card player. He and Jackie recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Mabel Brodshaug; his brother, Orten Brodshaug, and a nephew, Joel Brodshaug.
He leaves behind his wife Jackie, two daughters and two sons: Beth Grosen (Johannes), Maple Grove, MN; Mark (LuAnn), The Villages, FL; Jean Dugan (Joe), Webster Groves, MO; and John, Moorhead, MN. There are six grandchildren: Sven Grosen, Rachel Dean, Jack and Sarah Brodshaug, Patrick and Brian Dugan, and five great grandchildren: Eliza, Parker, Rylan, Margot and Lena. His sister Lorraine Hetland lives near Cooperstown.
A funeral to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Horace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held the evening prior at West Funeral Home in West Fargo, on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
