Richard Glynn Waslien
April 4, 1946 – July 22, 2025
Richard "Dick" Glynn Waslien, 79, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 22, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center, with his beloved wife and daughter by his side.
Dick was born on April 4, 1946, in Cummings, North Dakota, to Milt and Phyllis (Schafer) Waslien, and grew up in Casselton, ND. He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, with a degree in Art and Physical Education. On August 16, 1968, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Brandt.
Dick began his career as an art teacher and coach in Alden and Luverne, Minnesota. In 1978, he and his family moved to Wahpeton, North Dakota, where he transitioned into a new career selling insurance with Farmers Union Insurance. In 1993, he returned to his hometown of Casselton to take over his father Milt's business, working alongside his brother Robert "Bob" until his retirement in 2011.
An avid outdoorsman, Dick found great joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family lake home on Lake Lizzie. He cherished the moments spent there with Pat and family, especially watching his daughter, Mikki, and granddaughters, Abbi and Katie, enjoy the lake life he loved so much.
Dick will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 57 years, Pat; his daughter Mikki (Scott) Northuis; his granddaughter Abigail Northuis; his sister Susie (Larry) Rosenthal; his brother Robert (Joan) Waslien; and his many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milt and Phyllis, and his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Northuis.
Dick will be remembered for his warm, caring nature, his quiet strength, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the memories he helped create and the lives he touched.
