Richard J. Rotenberger, 84, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Lilac Homes under the care of HIA Hospice.
Richard was born on January 19, 1941, in Lisbon, North Dakota, to Jacob and Josie (Tangen) Rotenberger. He was baptized and confirmed at Anselem Trinity Church near Enderlin, North Dakota.
He grew up on a farm near Lisbon, where he attended grade school and later graduated from Lisbon High School.
In 1960, Richard married Ethel Mark, and together they had two children, Stacey and Callie. He learned the craft of carpentry from his brother-in-law, Jorgen Nokleberg, and later started his own business.
On August 30, 1985, he married the love of his life, Julie Rotenberger. She brought 3 children to the marriage and they formed a beautiful family that lasted almost 50 years.
Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones—especially his grandchildren, who deeply cherished their Papa.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie; brother, Jerry Rotenberger; children, Stacey (Jessica) Rotenberger and their children Jenna, Hannah, and Brett; Callie Rotenberger Desota and her daughter, Jade; Pamela Bolanos and her daughters, Samantha and Juliana; Richard (Melissa) Bryant and their children, Emma (Andrew) and River; and Anthony (Trish Mertz) Bryant and their children, Madison (Lee) and Steele.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Josie Rotenberger, and his brothers, Robert and Gordon Rotenberger.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to HIA Hospice and Lilac Homes for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to HIA Hospice.
Memorial Service: Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in New Hope Lutheran Church, Leonard, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Interment: Leonard Cemetery, Leonard, North Dakota.
