Ray Gadberry Obituary

Ray E. Gadberry passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Ray was born January 9, 1933, to Florice Iva Beale and Coy E. Gadberry in Flint Michigan. As a teenager he was interested in baseball, football, and basketball, and took on several different odd jobs to make money. Ray graduated from Flint Central High School in Michigan. In January 1954 Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Germany with the 67th AAA Battalion. After his honorable discharge in December 1955, he attended Michigan State University and graduated in 1959. Ray met the love of his life, Joyce E. Haney, and were married, September 14, 1957. They initially made their home in Flint Michigan where Ray went to work for Sears Roebuck in 1959. He was a recruiter, trainer and eventually a store manager with Sears in a career that spanned 35 years. As Ray’s job transferred the family through many different states, they raised their 3 children: David, Karen, and James.

Ray was an avid softball player and enjoyed playing the game well into his 80s. He enjoyed many years of snowmobiling with his family and friends. Ray and Joyce also enjoyed taking the family on many camping trips throughout the years. Ray and Joyce settled in Apple Valley, MN for 36 years. Ray retired from Sears in 1994. In July of 2018 they moved to West Fargo, ND to be closer to their son James and family.

Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Joyce, his parents Coy and Florice and sister Pauline.

He is survived by his sons Dave (Patty) Gadberry, Chanhassen, MN, James (DeAnna) Gadberry, Harwood, ND, and daughter Karen (Ahmed) Gadberry, Fes, Morocco, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Ray will be laid to rest next to the love of his life in Flint Michigan in a private family service to be held later this spring.
