Randy Moen, 65, formerly of Hunter, ND, died on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND.
Randall William Moen was born on August 14, 1955, in Fargo to Ted and Margaret (Johnson) Moen. He grew up on a farm near Hunter and attended grade school and middle school in Hunter. He graduated from Dakota High School in Arthur in 1973. He later attended UND and NDSU. In 1981, Randy purchased the Midway Saloon in Blanchard. In 1982, Randy married his high school sweetheart, Colleen King. In 1985, Randy started at Hunter Insurance Agency, where he worked for 33 years and eventually became part owner. In 2000, Randy and Colleen purchased Hunter Market, which they operated until 2007.
Randy was a proud resident of Hunter for most of his life, and he was very dedicated to serving Hunter and the surrounding communities. He spent time on the Hunter Fire Department, Hunter Community Club, and was a councilmember of First Lutheran Church in Hunter. Professionally, he served on the ND Professional Insurance Agents Board. He also served with the Hunter Ambulance Service for 28 years. In 2013, he received the Jerry Decker Award and in 2019 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the ND EMS Association for his many years of service.
Education was also very important to Randy. He served on the Dakota and Northern Cass School Boards for 20 years, from 1990-2010. Randy was an integral part of the Dakota and CVN schools consolidating to become Northern Cass. He was very proud to be a Jaguar and was a big supporter of Jaguar athletics.
Randy loved to entertain. He always greeted people with a smile and a joke. He loved to sing karaoke, go deer hunting with family, and spend time at the lake. You rarely saw him without a Mountain Dew or a Miller Lite in his hand. He was a diehard Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and UND fan.
We would like to thank all of Randy’s wonderful caregivers at Bethany, the FM Mobility drivers, and his Essentia Health providers. We would also like to thank Lend A Hand Up, and everyone who worked, contributed, and purchased items at his benefit. The family appreciates all of you.
