Randy Mewes

Randy Mewes, 76, Colgate, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Randall was born on March 29, 1950, the youngest of three sons born to John & Aldene Mewes.

Randy grew up on a farm in Colgate, ND and attended grade school at the Colgate School located next to his home. He helped with farm work from an early age. He attended high school in Page, ND after the Colgate school closed, graduating in 1968. He attended Valley City State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He met Jeanne Anderson in college, and they married on October 1, 1971 and they raised three children together.

Randy and Jeanne were teachers and taught in schools in Nekoma, ND, Verona, ND and Beardsley, MN. In each of these three schools Randy taught all the science classes from 7th through 12th grade. After teaching for nine years, Randy joined his parents and brothers on the family farm. Randy enjoyed computers and technology. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He often rescued animals in distress. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing guitar. After his retirement in 2014, Randy and Jeanne purchased an RV and enjoyed traveling to CA in the winter months and to many lakes & bike trails in MN and ND.

Randy was a kind & loving man who quietly was of help to many people, never wanting attention for what he did. He was a loving and supportive dad and grandpa who would do anything for his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with all of his friends and family. He was active in the 1st Presbyterian Church of Colgate.

Randy’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 2 PM at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Colgate in Colgate, ND.

Randy is survived by his wife Jeanne, children: Michael (Melisa) Mewes, Belle Plaine, MN; Matthew (Erin) Mewes, Northfield, MN; & Holly (Kelly) Martin, Fargo, ND. Grandchildren: Noah Mewes, Sophie (Jack) Kompelien, Jackson Mewes, Josephine Mewes, Emmy Mewes, Zachary Mewes and Alayna Martin. His brothers Ralph (Melanie) Mewes, and Raymond (Barbara) Mewes. Brother-in-laws Stephen (Chris) Anderson, Doug (Pandy) Anderson, Richard (Catherine) Anderson and eight nieces & eleven nephews who were dear to him. Randy was proceeded in death by his parents John and Aldene Mewes.
