Phyllis Irene Sullivan, 86, Argusville, ND, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at her home while under Hospice care. Phyllis was born July 2, 1934, to Goodwin and Edna (Schur) Nelson in Arthur, ND. In 1952, she married Donald Wieers. They made their home in Gardner, where they welcomed the arrival of their three children. Phyllis was widowed in 1969 and, subsequently, she and her children moved to Arthur to be near her parents. On September 7, 1973, she married Ralph Sullivan, where they made their home on a farm near Argusville for 47 years.
Phyllis loved being a farmer’s wife and loved cooking, baking and canning home grown produce, especially her famous dill pickles, coveted by family members—particularly her grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining family, hosting multiple holidays which included numerous homemade candies, cakes and main dishes. Phyllis loved spending time with family members, Sundays at Lake Maud, talking on the phone, getting her hair and nails done, and listening to music from the 50s and 60s. She could also play a mean game of pinochle and used to host pinochle parties in her Gardner home. She had a beautiful soprano voice and, as a young woman, won second place in a local radio contest by singing “My Happiness” by Connie Francis. Phyllis also was a soloist at countless showers and weddings, and sang “Harbor Lights” by The Platters, at her Junior Prom.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Ralph; daughters Nancy (Larry) Wiebusch, Judy (James) Erickson; son Larry (Monica) Wieers; grandchildren Breanne (Shane) McCarthy, Brandon (Elizabeth) Conkins, Jesse (Samantha) Erickson, Nate (Josh) Busko, Meggie Erickson, Brittany Wieers, Adam Swanson, and Elizabeth Erickson; great grandchildren Christian and Blake McCarthy, Kate and Hattie Conkins, and Spencer and Tenley Erickson; sister Karen (John) Brayton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Jaime Swanson.
