Philip "Phil" Brociek Obituary

Philip “Phil” Brociek, 69, of West Fargo, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026, at HIA Heather’s House in Fargo.

Philip Dean Brociek was born June 4, 1957, in Chicago, IL. He started his long life of working by selling newspapers and candy. He also worked concessions at Wrigley Field. After high school at Lane Tech, he started a long career with Schwinn. This took him to Fargo, ND in 1988 as a regional rep. As jobs changed, he always returned to Fargo. He started at Nurtien in Mapleton, ND, where he worked from September 2014 until retirement in December 2025.

He enjoyed sports, especially NDSU football and of course, Chicago teams. He loved his dogs, Leroy (deceased) and Henry. He was a devoted single father then eventually became a loving grandfather. His grandchildren softened his spirit and filled his heart. He could be remembered for loving spicy food, the hotter the better, and also for love of his native Chicago cuisine.

He was raised Lutheran at St. Timothy Church in Chicago. He raised his family at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. He made numerous friends through school, work, and activities such as softball and bowling. He had a great love of music and would often be heard singing Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to Meatloaf and Queen. Phil shared many songs with his family.

In the final time, he was diagnosed with ALS. He had many visits in his final week. The Ice Bucket Challenge was even revived by his family, friends, and coworkers.

Phil is survived by his children, Stephanie (Cory) McMillan, Christine (Joshua) Roy, Sean Waquan, and Alexandra Thomte; grandchildren, Keaton, Sierra, Sydne, Sherri, Aiden, Scott, Ann, Addison, Nolena, and Amelia; siblings, Edward Brociek, Catherine (Monchai) Esche, George Brociek, Susan Amill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Brociek and Fay (Bredbenner) Brociek; and a sister, Victoria (Brociek) Cook.
