Patsy Lou Gebeke Obituary

Patsy Lou Gebeke of Fargo, N.D. passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her son’s residence in Fargo under Hospice care.

Patsy Lou Iwen was born May 16, 1939, to August and Helen Iwen.  She was the ninth of ten children and the first in her family to be born in the hospital, at St. Luke’s in Fargo, N.D.  She grew up on the family farm near Amenia, N.D., and in town at Arthur, N.D.  She attended country school and Arthur Public Schools, graduating in 1957.

On March 23, 1958, Patsy married Raymond Gebeke at St. John Lutheran Church in Arthur, N.D. and this marriage produced three children: Shelly, Brian, and Sherry.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1982.

Patsy and her family lived in Williston, N.D. from 1972-2000.  She worked at Borud’s Bakery, Hedderichs Department Store, and Country Hearth Thrift Store, all in Williston.  In October of 2000, she moved to the Fargo area, and was employed at Herberger’s in the West Acres Mall until her retirement in 2011.

Much of Patsy’s time in Fargo was spent attending her grandchildren’s volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, tennis, and orchestra/choir concerts.  She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins baseball team and made a trip to Target Field for a 4th of July game against the Yankees.  Patsy was an awesome baker and loved to share her goodies with family and friends.  She also liked to play cards with her brother, Dony, sister Paulette, and brother-in-law, Orv.

To Patsy, nothing was more important than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She loved them all unconditionally and they always had her support.  She battled cancer on and off for 24 years, and did so with grace, dignity, and a warrior’s strength.

Patsy is survived by daughter Shelly (Russ) Krivoruchka, Bismarck, N.D., son Brian (Karen) Gebeke, Fargo, N.D., and daughter Sherry (Greg) Fettig, Bismarck, N.D.; seven grandchildren, Brianne (Brant) Miller and Alexandra (Andrew) Simonitch, West Fargo, N.D., Darby Krivoruchka, Paige, Carson, and Garret Fettig, all of Bismarck, N.D., and Logan Krivoruchka, Watford City, N.D.; great-grandchildren, Beckett and Braeya Miller, West Fargo, N.D.; brothers, James Iwen, Tioga, N.D., Dony Iwen, Fargo, N.D., Rony Iwen, Twin Cities area in MN; sisters, Mavis (Chas. Jr.) Lein, Fargo, N.D., Jane Tehven, Enid, OK, and Paulette (Orville) Bean, Moorhead, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, August and Helen Iwen; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bev Iwen; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Wayne Anderson; brother-in-law, Marvin Tehven; sisters-in-law, Maxine Iwen, Margaret Iwen; and an infant sister, Joan Iwen.

Patsy’s family would like to thank Roger Maris Cancer Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their amazing care of Patsy and request memorials be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley in Fargo or Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, N.D.
