Patsy Herrmann Obituary

Patsy Herrmann, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, partner and friend, passed away peacefully at the family home in Wheatland, North Dakota – the place that had been home for most of her life. Born in Fargo, North Dakota, on June 26, 1942, Patsy was the daughter of Wayne and Betty (Jendro)  Lauritsen. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1960 as Valedictorian.

In 1961, Patsy married Roger “Pete” Herrmann and began life as a military wife. Their marriage took them, and eventually their growing family, to many places.

Their son Wayne was born in 1962 in Colorado Springs. In 1968, during their second tour in Germany, Patsy and Pete welcomed twins, Mike and Michelle.

The family returned to Wheatland while Pete was stationed in Korea for a year. Patsy worked as a teacher’s aide at Central Cass Elementary.

After Pete retired from the military, the family returned to Wheatland and took over Patsy’s parents’ bar and grocery store. Patsy carried on a family tradition that was well known by many—making a “sought after” hamburger by the train engineers and bar patrons. Her connection to Wheatland and the family home remained an important part of her life.

Following Pete’s untimely passing in 1980, Patsy closed the bar and returned to school. She earned a business degree, beginning a new chapter and a career with Bremer Bank, where she worked until her retirement in 2010.

In 1997, Patsy and Marlyn Nudell went on a Valentine’s Day date that began a special companionship lasting 29 years. Together, they shared many wonderful memories, including cruises, Bison games, and winters spent in Florida. Marlyn became an important part of Patsy’s family. Their years together brought friendship, laughter, and countless happy memories.

Patsy was a classy woman with quiet strength and a deep devotion to family. Her grandchildren grew up knowing there were two special places they might be headed when visiting Grandma: the “train house” or the “lake house.” She loved her lake place, reading a good book, cheering for the NDSU Bison, and spending part of the winter in Florida with Marlyn. But most of all, she loved the people who made those places feel like home.

Patsy spent all but sixteen years of her life in the family home. It is fitting that she spent her final days there, surrounded by the memories and the place that meant so much to her.

Patsy is survived by her children, Wayne Herrmann; Michelle Weber; and Michael (Carrie) Herrmann; her companion and partner, Marlyn Nudell; her brother, David (Carol) Lauritsen; her grandchildren, Roger (Rachelle) Herrmann, Veronica (Joe) Franklin, Vanessa (Matt) Moore, Charley Weber and Shelby Weber, and their father, Jeff Weber, Pete Herrmann, Annie Herrmann, Kate Herrmann, Jill Herrmann, and Betty Herrmann; and her five great-grandchildren, Paul, Phillip, and Alice Herrmann, and Aurora and Theodore Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger “Pete” Herrmann; her parents, Wayne and Betty Lauritsen; and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Herrmann.

Patsy leaves behind a family who will remember her strength, quiet determination, and love of family.
