Pat Baukol Obituary

Patricia ‘Pat’ (Knauss) Baukol (92) passed from this world to her eternal home on September 5, 2022 at St. Gerard Community Care Center in Hankinson, North Dakota. Pat’s funeral will be held September 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. CDST in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hankinson, ND. Rev. C.H. Jahnke (St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo) will be officiating.

Pat was born to Ted and Lucille Knauss, April 30, 1930 at home on the farm near Hannaford, North Dakota. She attended Bartley Country School through 8th grade. She graduated from Hannaford High School May 28, 1948. She met the love of her life (Duane Baukol) while he was working for her father on the family farm. They were united in marriage at Mahnomen, Minnesota on May 29, 1948. (This past May, Pat and Duane celebrated their 74th Wedding Anniversary.) Their first home was in Waubun, Minnesota. They also lived in Moorhead, Minnesota. In 1950 they were blessed with a son, Rick. In 1953 they moved to Hannaford and purchased the Hannaford Locker Plant. Also that year they were delighted to add their daughter, Ellen. In 1956 their second son, Arlan joined the family.

In 1961, the family moved to Turtle Lake, North Dakota. Pat had always wanted to be a teacher, so she began teaching Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran Church. She also babysat for friends, and was a Girl Scout leader. The family resided in Turtle Lake until August of 1968, when they moved to West Allis, Wisconsin. Pat continued babysitting and teaching Sunday school. In 1970, the family moved to West Fargo. In 1971, they moved to Carrington and in the same year to Cooperstown. There she began her career working in the Activity Department at the Nursing Home. 1975 found them in Minot. She took care of her grand-daughters for several years, and continued her career in the Activities department at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot. After she retired, she babysat for two children whom she and Duane treated like grandchildren. She also spent time tutoring her grandchildren. In 2008 they moved to West Fargo. In 2018 they entered the St. Gerard Community Care Center in Hankinson, North Dakota.

Pat loved reading, playing games on her iPad, solving word finds and other puzzles. She loved to bake. Her fresh homemade buns and chocolate chip cookies were family favorites.

Pat is survived by her beloved husband, Duane; her son Rick (Sharon), daughter Ellen (Jim Becker), and son Arlan (Vicky); grandchildren Tina Hyder, Laurie Baukol, Mike Baukol (Christy), Angie (Mike Hagen), Elizabeth Becker, Amy Baukol, Sarah Becker, and Austin Baukol (Maggie); and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; her sisters Kay (Harvey Brudvig), Mary Jane, and Becky (Mel Moe). Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law Twila Baukol, her sister Phyllis Nelson; brother Frederick Knauss; and her grand-daughter Amanda Baukol.

Pat’s funeral will be held September 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. CDST in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hankinson, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.  The funeral will be officiated by Rev. C.H. Jahnke (St Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo).
