Olive Jacobson, 86, of West Fargo ND, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Betty’s Harbor in New Perspectives under the care of her family and Ethos Hospice services.
Olive Muriel Nelson was born on November 16, 1935 in Bismarck ND. Her parents were Fred and Gladys Nelson. She grew up on the family farm south-east of Braddock, along with her 5 brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles. She graduated from Napoleon High School in 1953 and attended Valley City State Teachers College earning a teaching certificate. Olive taught in a one-room schoolhouse near the Jacobson farm, and then continued to teach 5th grade in Napoleon ND for several years. Olive was active on Facebook and always enjoyed communicating with her former students.
On November 27, 1959 she married Richard Jacobson at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, ND. They farmed 5 miles east of Braddock until their move to West Fargo in 2007. Together they raised 4 children and saw them through their graduation at Braddock High School, and Napoleon High School. In their retirement years, Richard and Olive loved to travel. They have been in 49 states and spent summers in Arizona for several years.
Olive and Richard were members of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Kintyre, then attended Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo. Olive was quite active at Trinity Lutheran Church, over the years she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and attended Ladies Aid. Olive was a farmer’s wife, and assisted Richard in working with the cattle, haying, swathing and driving truck. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, reading, puzzles, card games, dominoes, and many craft activities. Most of all she enjoyed her family.
Olive was a breast cancer survivor, later in life, she was afflicted by Dementia. For the past few years, every night, she would gather items to pack to go home. We are rejoicing with her that she is home!
Olive is survived by her husband Richard, daughter-Carmen (William) Biddle, son-Nathan (Lila) Jacobson, daughter Amy (Kenney Robinson) Jacobson, daughter-Greta (Jay) Hettinger. She is survived by 11 grandchildren: Jacob, Caleb, Nicholas, Travis, Cassandra, Hailee, Kyland, Keyana, Olivia, Landon, Zoe, and 10 great-grandchildren: Adalie, Eli, Aspen, Kinley, Elizabeth, Cameron, Ava, Malina, Kyrstin, and Bailey.
She is also survived by her brother-Earl (Dorothy) Nelson, sister-DoLores (Dick) Kounovsky, brother-Wally (DyVonne) Nelson, brother-Gary Nelson, and sister-Joyce (Tom) Mueller.
Funeral Service: Monday, October 3, 2022 at 2 PM at West Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Reception following the service.
Final Resting Place: Maria Lutheran Cemetery, Braddock, ND.
