Norma Lee Warrey, 76, passed away on January 15, 2023. Norma was born on September 12, 1946, in Fargo, North Dakota to Norman and Ione Alm (Haynes). Norma grew up on a farm outside Ayr, ND with her sister and lifelong best-friend, Judy. Norma attended Ayr High School where she met her future husband, David Warrey. They were married in 1967, and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2022. Norma graduated from NDSU with a degree in English in 1968. After graduation she took her first teaching job in Chaffee, ND where she taught for several years. She and Dave then moved to Casselton where they raised their kids Vickie, Jonathan, and Jackie and enjoyed being part of the community for over 50 years. She went on to teach English and Advanced Composition at Central Cass retiring in 2009. You had to pass her English class to graduate as a Squirrel, which was no easy task. Norma loved to read and learn. She read everything from Shakespeare to Steinbeck to the Sunday Comics. She was one smart cookie! Norma served as the President of the Casselton Public Library for years and served in multiple leadership roles at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Casselton. She was an amazing mother and loved nothing more than laughing with her family. Norma will be dearly missed.
Norma is survived by her husband David Warrey, her sister Judy (John) Ortez, her brother-in-law Rod Fisk, her children Vickie (Shawn) Elgin, Plymouth, MN, Jonathan (Amy) Warrey, Casselton, ND and Jackie (Mark) Meyer, Fargo, ND. Niece Katy Ortez, Moorhead, MN; Nephews Tim (Melissa) Ortez, Hayden Fisk, Chandler AZ, and her grandchildren, Alexis Elgin, Grace Warrey, Owen Warrey, Anna Elgin, and Charlotte Meyer. Norma was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Ione Alm, and grandson David James Meyer.
Funeral: Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023 at 11 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Casselton with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Casselton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Casselton Public Library or the Rural Cass Food Pantry.
