Nic Jalbert Obituary

Nic Jalbert, 46, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at his home in West Fargo, ND.

Nicholas Eugene Jalbert was born on July 14, 1979, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to Eugene and Karen (Kane) Jalbert. The family relocated due to Eugene's service in the U.S. Air Force and eventually settled at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL. Nic graduated from Mascoutah High School, class of 1998, in Mascoutah, IL. In 1999, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in St. Louis, MO, serving as a recruiter until he deployed to Iraq in 2004. Nic served his country in the Marine Corps until 2006.

After completing his tour of duty in Iraq, Nic earned an associate degree from Southwest Illinois College and a bachelor's degree in Physical Anthropology and Art History from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.

While in high school, Nic developed a relationship with Kathleen Jones. After parting ways for a few years to focus on his service in the Marine Corps, Nic and Kathleen rekindled their relationship and married on December 26, 2003, just before his deployment. After returning from Iraq, the couple lived in St. Louis and Texas before settling in West Fargo, ND, in 2010, shortly after the birth of their son, Alex. Nic served as the Veteran Service Officer for the West Fargo VFW until 2020.

Nic was a dedicated lifelong learner who had a strong interest in history, science, and literature, as well as a fondness for classic video games and music. He deeply valued his relationships with family and friends; although he faced challenges that sometimes complicated these connections, his heart was always with them.

Nic is survived by his wife, Kathleen; their son, Alexander; his parents, Eugene and Karen Jalbert; his sister, Christian Jalbert; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Jody Jones; his brother- and sister-in-law, Robert and Becky Jones; and cousins who were also his closest friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Gertrude Kane, and Gerald and Jacqueline Jalbert.

In honor of Nic's memory, please consider donating to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
