Nels Lande, 89, Fargo, North Dakota, died on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at his home in Fargo.
Nels Philip Lande was born January 18, 1932 to Lena (Lande) and Nils Lande at Mayville, North Dakota. He attended grade school at Mayville, #1 country school close to his farm and high school at Mayville. He had the nickname of Junior during his school years. He worked at the stock yards as a young man.
He joined the heavy mortar company of the 40th division in 1951 and served in Korea in 1952. He married Joyce McCoy May 18, 1953 at the Kenneth Lande home in Portland, Oregon. They had a daughter Renee. They lived in Mayville. He worked at the Top Hat and at a filling station in Mayville. He and his wife, daughter and stepdaughter moved to Washington state where he was employed at the school district near Port Orchard, Washington. He later started his own business as a garage door installer until retiring in 1994. He and his wife later divorced, and he moved to the Fargo area and has resided there until his death.
Nels loved the game of golf, duck hunting, fixing things in the home and working outside. He also played the guitar and sang for his own pleasure. He was a perfectionist and excelled in everything he did.
He is survived by a stepdaughter Geri Novas of Suzansville, California, numerous nieces and nephews, his special friend Harriet Holler of Fargo and her family Connie Brewer, Bonnie Holler Evenson and her children, Travis and Jessica and his many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Lawrence, Kenneth and Palmer and a sister, Yvonne.
Interment: Fargo National Cemetery, North Dakota in the spring.
