Myron's Funeral has been postponed to Tuesday, April 11th, 2023 at 10 a.m. with visitation starting at 9 a.m. at West Funeral Home, West Fargo
Myron Leon Huettl, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughter and granddaughter on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.
Myron was born in the car on the way to Makoti, North Dakota on August 28, 1929 to Ray and Viola (Gudmunson) Huettl. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1947 and went on to start electrical courses at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Myron joined the United States Navy on September 21, 1948. He was a Gunner’s Mate Third Class on the U.S.S. Uvalde (AKA-88) in the South Pacific during the Korean conflict. He helped provide ammunition, fleet freight and mail to units of the United Nations Forces in Korea. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy on September 16, 1952. Myron did not talk much about his time in the Navy until he was able to participate in the WDAY Honor Flight in Washington, D.C. in 2015. He returned home with a renewed sense of pride. Following his discharge in 1952, he moved to Garrison, North Dakota where he met his wife, Jean McKinnon, a nurse at the Garrison clinic, while doing electrical work in the clinic. They married on November 21, 1954 in Garrison, North Dakota. They welcomed their first daughter, Jane, in May 1956. In 1957 the family moved to Montana and Myron began working for the Army Corp of Engineers in Fort Peck. In 1958 they returned to North Dakota and Myron began to work as a civilian at the U.S. Air Force Base in Minot as an electrician. Myron and Jean welcomed their second daughter, Carol Marie in 1960. Carol Marie passed away one day later. Myron proudly worked at the U.S. Air Force Base until June 1989. At the time of his retirement, he had worked his way up to working on the missile sites. After retirement, Myron and his wife moved to Fargo, North Dakota to be closer to their grandkids. He worked for Dakota Electric Supply from July 1989 until his retirement in June 1995. In his retirement, he worked part time at the golf course as a ranger, at the court house as a bailiff and volunteered at the Medora Musical. Myron and Jean were married for 55 years until Jean passed away in February 2010.
Myron lived in his home in Fargo until July 2018 when he then moved to New Perspectives Senior Living apartments. He lived at New Perspectives and remained independent until his health began to decline and he moved into Bethany Nursing Home in October 2022.
Myron will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his infectious giggle, and the twinkle in his eyes. Myron adored his family and being a grandfather was one of the true joys in his life. He spent his final days surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters. Myron touched the lives of everyone he met, which was especially evident during his time at New Perspectives and Bethany on 42nd. Myron’s death has left an unfillable void in our hearts, but we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his wife and daughter.
Myron is survived by his daughter, Jane (Tim) Bittner and granddaughters, Annalise and Danielle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Myron was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean, his infant daughter Carol, his parents, Ray and Viola Huettl and sisters, Margaret Boots and Frances Currie.
We would like to thank the staff at Bethany on 42nd in the River Terrace unit and the staff at Ethos Hospice for the loving care they provided Myron, especially during his final days.
