Matt Walsh

   Matthew Howard Walsh was born June 29th, 1983 in Alexandria, MN to Jacquelyn (Haug) and Randy Walsh.  He was baptized at Osakis Lutheran Church, Osakis, MN and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.  Matthew graduated from Oak Grove High School in 2002.  Although he participated in many sports during his school years, playing football was his favorite.  While growing up, he enjoyed vacations with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also enjoyed his time at the Howard Foreng farm in Pekin, ND, his namesake, visiting, hunting, and eating great food. Matthew passed away on October 30th, 2023.

   In 2009, Matthew met Nicole. He pursued her until they began dating in 2010. As Matthew would say, "persistence pays off." Matthew not only fell in love with Nicole, but her daughter, Jerica, too. They became a family on July 5th, 2013. After a few moves within Fargo, they found and settled in their home outside of Mapleton, ND. Matthew enjoyed playing with the dogs in the large backyard, and spending time in the garage working on anything that needed it, and sometimes things that didn't. 

   Matthew leaves behind his wife, Nicole, his stepdaughter, Jerica, his parents, Randy and Jacquelyn, sister, Kristin (Matthew) Dehmer, nieces Sophia and Louisa Dehmer, nephew Sam Dehmer, father-in-law, Jeff Payne, sister-in-law, Jade (Floyd) Volk, nieces Ella and Hadley Volk, nephew Cooper Volk, and brother-in-law, Gage (Leena) Payne.  He is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and his dog and best friend, Beav.

   Matthew was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Rachel Payne, his grandparents and great grandparents, aunt and godparent Rebecca Emerson, uncle and godparent Crayton Haug and godparent Terry Morris.   Funeral services will be Friday, November 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, North Dakota with visitation one hour prior to the service.
