Mary Schmidt Obituary

Mary Schmidt, 92, of Fargo, formerly of Arthur, ND, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo. 

Mary Ann Schmidt was born September 4, 1928,  in Amenia, ND, the daughter of Walter & Edna (Rieniets) Grieger.   She was raised in Amenia, attended school in there and in Hunter, ND.  Mary and Alvin “Swede” Nelson were married on November 10, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church in Arthur.  The couple farmed east of Arthur until Swede’s death October 10, 1966.  Mary moved to Arthur and was employed at First State Bank of North Dakota.  On September 29, 1972, she married Allen (Barney) Schmidt.  The couple lived in Fargo until his death April 16, 1993. At that time Mary moved to Cooperative Living in West Fargo and later to Edgewood Vista, Fargo in 2014.  

Mary loved spending time with friends, helping people and driving for them.  She was a member of the St. John Ladies Aid and Homemakers in Arthur. 

Grateful for having shared in her life, daughter:  Mary Jane Strom of West Fargo;  daughter-in-law:  Vickie Nelson of West Fargo;  6 grandchildren;  14 great-grandchildren;  brothers:  Gerold (Marie) Grieger of Fargo and Carl (Pam) Grieger in Arizona.  

She was preceded in death by her parents;  husbands;  son:  Allan Nelson;  brother:  Donald Grieger and a sister:  Ethel Satrom.
