Marvel Anna Pittenger passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17th at Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo, ND. Marvel was born on November 17th, 1922, on the family farm in Binford, ND to Eugene and Ida (Dahl) Pittenger. Marvel completed her education through the 8th grade in the country school near the farm. Marvel was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church, Binford, ND. On October 26th, 1941, Marvel married Oscar Stalvik in Wimbledon, ND. They were married for 51 years before his passing in January 1993. They had seven children. In 1996 Marvel married Vernon Mossestad, he passed away January 2003. In 2020 Marvel moved to Sheyenne Crossing and resided there until her passing.
In her younger years, Marvel loved bowling, dancing, camping, playing cards, cooking and canning pickles, watching the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins. As she got older she loved Bingo, Skip-bo and doing Word Search puzzles. When anyone stopped by they had to have coffee and her homemade peanut butter cookies. She always had Sunchips and Funyons on hand too. Her favorite meal was fish, especially Lutefisk. A few days before her passing she requested Coconut Shrimp, Tilapia Fish, crackers and summer sausage. Her family filled those wishes and she loved it all.
Marvel loved reminiscing about the old days. The team of horses with a sleigh/wagon would take her to school and she would turn them around and slap them on the behind and they would go home. When school was over her mother would slap them on the behind and they would go pick her up. She also talked about swimming in the creek by the farm.
Marvel always had a hug and a kiss for everyone that she loved. She loved her family immensely and they loved her the same.
Marvel is survived by her children, Bonnie (Norman) Scott of Fargo, ND, Cheryl (Dennis) Delamater of Mooresville, NC, Janell Schweitzer (Allen Surprenant) of West Fargo,ND, Oscar Stalvik Jr. of Des Moines, WA; daughter-in-law, Nancy Stalvik of Loves Park, IL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Marvel was preceded in death by her husbands, Oscar Stalvik and Vernon Mossestad. Her children, Marlene Koski, Arlo Stalvik, and Sandy Rivenes. Her granddaughters, Renae Delamater and Stephanie Schweitzer. Her great grandson, Kyle Cox. Her son in laws, Don Koski Sr, Marty Schweitzer and Clayton Rivenes Sr.
A huge thank you to the staff at Sheyenne Crossing for all the loving care you gave our mom while she lived there.
