Marlys Mattson

Marlys Mattson, 85, of Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.

Marlys Jean Nodsle was born March 12, 1940 in Fargo to Joseph and Martha (Wallman) Nodsle. She grew up near Harwood, ND and graduated from high school in Argusville, ND where she was active in drama and other activities. She met the love of her life roller skating in Prosper, ND. Marlys and Larry Mattson were later married on May 29, 1959. They lived in Fargo, Harwood and Hawley, MN. Marlys worked various jobs over the years along with raising her six children.

Marlys and Larry served as youth advisors at Hegland Lutheran Church near Hawley. They enjoyed summers at Woodland Campground on Ottertail Lake, the occasional trip to the casino, dancing and going to Branson. She was the family matriarch and cherished family gatherings.

She is survived by six children: 

   Laurie Stone, her family, Jason  -Gavin, Liam & Christian; Jonathan (Andrea) -Austin, Havyn & Adleigh;

   Deborah (Stacey) Riedberger their family, Casey (Nick), - Kohen & Kylin, Carey (Kraig), Kinley, -Beckam & Everett;

   Kathy Shepler, her family, Nicole Shepler, Megan (Mike) Moore -Finn & Oliver, Samantha (Tyler) Nyland,- Josephine, Lincoln, Allie, Sophia, & Duane; 

   Pamela Mattson,  her family, Isabella & Natalia; 

   Jim (Robin) Mattson, their family,  Jake (Allie)  -Bailey, Nora & Braxton  Katie Mattson  -Madison, Desmond, Adilyne, Ben (Allie) -Dixie & Harvey,  Matt (Lindsey), -Cash & Jennings,  Autumn (Zach) Winklers  -Daxton & Bexlee,  -Tasha Thomas; 

   Gary Mattson, his children,  -Danielle, Jack & Samantha;

and siblings, Beverly Puttbrese and David (Carol) Nodsle.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, sons-in-law:  Mark Stone & John Shepler; granddaughter-in-law, Katie Stone; and siblings, Marvin (Vera) Nodsle and Ilene (Morris) Bush.

Celebration of Life:  Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 2 PM at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.

Burial:  Oakwood Cemetery, Harwood.
