Marlys (Lang) Giermann

Marlys Giermann of Sun Lakes, AZ, formerly Fargo, ND and Casselton, ND, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Dobson Home in Chandler, AZ.

Marlys Lang was born January 22, 1937 in Britton, SD, the daughter of Emil and Laura (Jerke) Lang. Her father’s work as a minister resulted in moves to Hecla, SD, Carrington, ND, where she completed high school, and their final move to Casselton. She received her teaching degree at Concordia College and completed her student teaching in Great Falls, MT.

She married Wayne “Cork” Giermann on June 21,1959. They settled in Casselton where they raised their family and Marlys taught one year of 4th Grade, substitute taught for 25 years, gave piano lessons, and helped with the family farming operation. They moved to Fargo in 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003. Marlys moved to Sun Lakes near her daughter’s home in 2019.

Marlys was active in the Lutheran churches she attended and enjoyed reading, going for walks, baking, having coffee and meals with friends, and most important to her, spending time with her family.

Marlys is survived by her children, Vicki (David) Casso, Chandler, AZ, Steve (Stacey) Giermann, Bremerton, WA, Craig (Kim) Giermann, Chisholm, MN; brother-in-law Donald (Karen) Giermann; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11 AM at West Funeral Home Chapel in Casselton, ND with visitation one hour prior and a reception to follow.
