Marlyne Skramstad Obituary

Marlyne Betty Skramstad, age 93, of Fargo, North Dakota, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday evening, May 12, 2026.

We can only imagine the joy of her entering the gates of Heaven, seeing her Savior face to face, and being reunited with the love of her life, Leroy.

Marlyne Betty Jostad was born on February 21, 1933, in Wahpeton, North Dakota, to Toby and Mildred (Hazemann) Jostad. She was the oldest sibling to her brothers Lyle, Floyd, and Orville. Together they grew up on the family farm near Kindred, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at an early age and remained a devoted follower of Christ throughout her life, always encouraging others to know Jesus and place their trust in Him.

Marlyne graduated from Kindred High School on May 25, 1950.

On August 15, 1953, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Leroy Allen Skramstad. They began their life together before settling in Enderlin, where they purchased their first home in 1956 on Dakota Street—a home they lovingly shared for over 50 years. Marlyne was awarded a scholarship to Valley City for teaching and went on to teach for over ten years. In 1960, they welcomed their son, Rusty Allan Skramstad, and in 1962, their daughter, Robin Ann Skramstad, completed their family—truly their greatest blessings.

Later, Marlyne faithfully served her church, First United Methodist Church, as secretary. As her children grew, she dedicated her time to the community, managing the Enderlin Golf Course for over 20 years. Leroy later joined her after his retirement, and together they became devoted weekly golfers. Their grandchildren cherish memories of joining them on the course and sharing a cold pop afterward.

Marlyne also worked at the Enderlin Senior Center, where she delivered countless Meals on Wheels, always serving others with a giving heart.

On September 24, 2007, Marlyne lost her beloved Leroy. His passing left a deep void in her heart, and she spoke of him often, with tears never far behind. Her heart was never quite the same.

In 2008, she sold their longtime home and moved to downtown Enderlin. She continued to pour her heart into her church and community—serving through Girl Scouts, teaching junior high Sunday school, helping with summer Bible school, and volunteering wherever she was needed. In 2020, she was honored as Enderlin Volunteer of the Year, a true reflection of her servant’s heart.

In December 2021, she moved to Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo. In February 2023, she moved to St. Catherine’s North, where she was deeply loved by the staff and received exceptional care—they lovingly called her “Grandma.” By God’s grace, she was able to complete her journey there, surrounded by those who loved her.

Marlyne had a deep love for holidays and time spent in the kitchen. She and Leroy made countless memories baking—her famous apple pie, cookies, and many sweet treats. Coffee and sweets were always plentiful in their home, and her homemade meals, especially her lefsa, will be dearly missed. She also had a gift for creating with her hands. Marlyne enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, lovingly making beautiful baby dresses for new arrivals. She also enjoyed bowling and, no matter how busy she was, always made time to welcome her grandchildren into her home, caring for them and creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Catherine North for loving and caring for Marlyne as their own. God bless each of you.

Marlyne is survived by her children, Rusty (Kim) Skramstad of Fergus Falls and Robin Skramstad Rasmusson of West Fargo; her grandchildren, Justin (Heather) Skramstad, Josh Skramstad, Amanda (Trevor) Skramstad, Zach (Lacey) Skramstad, and Autumn (Nick) Cascone; step-grandchildren, Dustin Ramage and Nic (Morgan) Ramage; and her greatgrandchildren, Alexis, Emersyn, Kason, Ayla, Caelob, Jeremiah, Bailey, Patience, Teresa, Phoenix, Avery, and Retta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her parents; her brothers; and an infant brother.

At Marlyne’s request, a public service will not be held. A private burial will take place in Enderlin, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Leroy.

Blessed be the memory of Marlyne Betty Skramstad.
