Obituary

Marilyn E. Roehl, 60, of West Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 3, 2023, surrounded by family, at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Marilyn Edith Doxey was born September 25, 1962, the youngest of four kids to Frederick & Loretta (Kaste) Doxey, in Boston, MA. Marilyn was so proud to share that her parents met at West Point, NY, at the start of their military careers. Marilyn spent much of her youth in Moorhead, MN, graduating from Moorhead High School, in 1980. Following high school, Marilyn attended college where she graduated with a degree and subsequent lifelong career in cancer registry. Throughout her career she made many friends and acquaintances while helping to excel the registry departments at local hospitals, as well as serving as faculty at a local technical college to aid in developing their educational program. She finished her professional career at Sanford Health, Fargo, in June of 2019.

Marilyn married Richard Roehl, October 8, 1983, in Moorhead. Together they had three children, Benjamin Richard, Tyler Alexander, and Marissa June who they raised in West Fargo. Some of the most exciting days for Marilyn included attending various kid sporting events. As her kids grew, so did her love of watching them flourish extracurricularly, academically, personally, and professionally. She loved becoming a grandma to her seven grandchildren and was affectionately known as Moe Moe.

In June of 2019, life for Marilyn changed due to a diabetic coma that left her clinging to life. From youth, Marilyn struggled with Addison Disease and diabetes. Marilyn was never fully able to regain her health or the lifestyle she lived for. Many of the activities and day-to-day tasks that had once been easy were very much a chore. Even with therapy and professionals her diabetes was uncontrollable. She remained at home as long as she could before living for a short time in New Perspective, West Fargo and finally, Bethany on 42nd, Fargo, before losing her battle.

One thing we can all relish in is that she’s now free from a body that restrained her from all the good times she so enjoyed. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and ability to light up a room. Marilyn loved the sun, boat rides, a beverage, socializing, laughing, dancing, cooking, a catchy tune, trips, all her “girlfriends”, birthday club, family, every sports team her kids played for and plain old fun.

Marilyn is survived by husband, Richard, West Fargo; children, Ben (Medora) Roehl, Tyler (Mary) Roehl, both West Fargo, and Marissa (Mike) Manske, Casselton; grandchildren, Kirra, Lydia, Colton, Miles, Maxwell, Evelyn, and Gabrielle; brothers, Dave (Julie) Doxey and Mike Doxey; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick & Loretta Doxey; and sister, Lynne Kovash.

All condolences and sentiments are greatly appreciated. Memorial tributes can be directed to the American Diabetes Association, as an “in-honor gift” to Marilyn at diabetes.org. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported her through friendship, visits, and extra care the last four years. You were a beacon of hope and light in Marilyn’s life.
