Marilyn Prochnow Obituary

Marilyn Prochnow, 76, of Casselton, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026, at Heather’s Hospice House in Fargo. 

Marilyn Dianne (Smith) Prochnow was born July 17, 1949 to Lester and Olivia (Grote) Smith at Morris, MN. She graduated from Bagley High School, Bagley, MN in 1967 and moved to Fargo, ND after graduation. She then went to Interstate Business College, landing a job at American Life Insurance Company until 1973. 

Marilyn married Jeffrey Lee Prochnow on December 1, 1973. They had two children, Lee Prochnow and Jason Prochnow (Rachael), both of Fargo, ND. She has five grandchildren, McKenzie, Sydney, Addyson, Grady and Dante, all of Fargo.

She held several jobs including working at a day care, Cenex, First State Bank, Gordy’s, Sonshine Day Care, Casselton Golf Course and Casselton Library. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed playing golf and reading.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Olivia Smith and her brothers James, LeRoy and David Smith. 

In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her siblings Elaine Millar, Fargo, Ronald Smith, Shevlin, MN, Lyle Smith (Sue), Aberdeen, SD; sister-in-law Kathy Smith, Minneapolis, MN; sister Dianne Haukland, Coon Rapids, MN; brother Doug (Rae) Smith, Bemidji, MN; brother Russell Smith (Terri), Moorhead, MN; sister Colleen (Doug) Lindgren, Bagley, MN; and many nephews and nieces. 

Open House Visitation from 1 to 4 pm with a 2 pm Time of Sharing, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at West Funeral Home in Casselton.
