Marilyn Barnby, 92, West Fargo, N.D., died Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Eventide Sheyenne Crossings.
Marilyn Louise Armstrong was born on December 23, 1930, to Earl and Martha (Neas) Armstrong at Trinity Hospital in Minot, N.D. When she was young, her family moved to Grand Forks, N.D., and Marilyn graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1948. In 1952, she graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo, N.D. as an R.N.
On June 6, 1953, she married Don Barnby in Grand Forks. They lived in Casselton, N.D., and later spent winters in Arizona and summers at the lake.
Marilyn volunteered many hours for Sanford Health (formerly MeritCare), and she belonged to the Red Hat Society, the senior citizens club in Casselton, a widow support group, and the quilting group at Martin’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member.
Marilyn is survived by 2 daughters, Sharol (Jim) Martin, Fargo, N.D., and Shelley (Duane) Leonard, Verndale, MN; 2 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Gene (Jill) Barnby, Detroit Lakes, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Don.
Funeral Service: Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 2 p.m. in Martin’s Lutheran Church, Casselton, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Casselton Cemetery.
