Margie Mergner, 88, of Casselton, North Dakota, departed this world on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in her home.
Margie Ann Iwen was born January 3, 1938 at Arthur, North Dakota to Walter and Hazel (Townsley) Iwen. Margie was the youngest of 6 siblings and experienced the joys and struggles of growing up on a farm. She graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture High School in Crookston, Minnesota and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mayville State College. Margie later earned a master’s degree in education. She was a public school teacher and principal for 33 years, primarily at Vanden High School on Travis Air Force Base in Northern California.
Margie and Don farmed in Cass County near Arthur, North Dakota, and enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona. Don passed on in 2017.
Margie loved her family and friends, and she enjoyed reading, playing cards and watching her favorite television shows.
Margie is survived by two sons, Kris Hoeft, Fairfield, California, Kevin (Katrina) Hoeft, Bradenton, Florida; and two grandchildren, Josiah Hoeft and Susanna Hoeft.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and her siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., in West Funeral Home, Casselton, North Dakota, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Interment: Arthur Cemetery, Arthur, North Dakota.
