Margaret Burkhardsmeier

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Margaret Elaine Burkhardsmeier, 84 years old, Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 10th, 2024, at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.

Margaret was born on December 30, 1939, in Dale, MN, as the youngest child and only daughter of Jerome and Alma Nelson.  She grew up on the family farm south of Hitterdahl, MN, growing potatoes and was baptized and confirmed at Highland Grove Church in rural Hitterdahl.  She attended grade school and high school in Hitterdahl before moving to Moorhead, MN where she attended and graduated from Moorhead High School.  She made her home in Moorhead, in 1957 where she had 4 beautiful children. She began a 14-year career at the former Bob’s Hardware at Northport in Fargo before transitioning to a 22-year career at Stop N Go, where she became affectionately known as “The Bun Lady” because of her magnificent baking skills making their buns and caramel rolls.  She retired from Stop N Go in 2006. She lived in West Fargo until 3 years ago when she moved in with Ann and Rob due to health issues. 

During her life she loved going fishing, going camping, Elvis Presley, and her children’s sporting events (mostly hockey – go figure), and loved getting a deal at a thrift store.  She had a camping spot on Leaf Lake in Minnesota and later, a spot near Lake Ashtabula in North Dakota.  She was very active in the West Fargo VFW Post 7564 Auxiliary and was a long-time member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Fargo.  She also enjoyed seek and find word puzzles. And oh, my gosh did she love BLING!

She is survived by her children, Ann Sherrill (Rob), Jerray Lang (Kathy), and Lee. Margaret has many grand and great-grandchildren and 8 stepchildren through marriages, her best friend, Janet Solheim; and a lot of extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Carl and Donald; her fur baby, “Tuff”; and her son, Larry.

Visitation: Monday, December 16, 2024, from 5-7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, with a prayer service at 7 PM.

Memorial Service:  Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 11 AM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour before the service.

Burial: Highland Grove, Hitterdal, MN.
