Lynn M. Kensok, age 70, died peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St. Raphael Nursing home in Valley City, ND. Despite the challenges she faced with her mental handicap, Lynn lived a life full of love and adventure.
Lynn was born December 13, 1953, in St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, to Linus and Margaret Kensok of Wheatland, ND.
She lived in Grafton and Minot until she found her happy place at the Open Door Center in Valley City, where she thrived among friends and caregivers for 40 years. Lynn's passions included bowling, jigsaw puzzles, singing in the choir, and participating in the Special Olympics, where she shone with determination and spirit. She fulfilled her goal when she won silver and bronze medals in the 2003 World Summer games in Ireland.
Her love for babies knew no bounds, and she delighted in their presence. Lynn's wanderlust took her on extensive travels including her favorites of Disney World and Hawaii, creating a treasure trove of memories. Born into a large and loving family, Lynn was one of 11 siblings, surrounded by a supportive and devoted clan. Family meant everything to her. She loved calling and checking in with mom and sisters, but visits were the best.
Lynn is survived by her mother, Margaret of Casselton: sisters Leslie Cox of Hawley, MN; Jeanne (Malcolm) Rodacker of Grand Forks, ND; Ann (Mike) Faught of Absaraka, ND; Mary (Dan) Mathis of Tumwater, WA; Tracy (Joe) Sinner of Littleton, CO; Bobbi (Steve) Miller of Fargo, ND; and brothers Rick (Shirley) Kensok of Wheatland, ND; Jack (Mary) Kensok of Casselton, ND; Terry (Shari) Kensok of Wheatland, ND; Bill (Amy) Kensok of West Fargo, ND and 28 nieces and nephews, 33 great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great nephew.
She is preceded in death by her father Linus Kensok, brother-in-law Dale Cox, sister-in-law Kate Kensok and niece Michelle Kulasingham.
Lynn's kindness, and gentle way inspired countless lives. Her legacy will live on through the countless hearts she touched. Rest in peace, dear Lynn. Your love and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to the staff at the Open Door Center for your years of dedication and giving Lynn a home away from home and to St. Raphael’s for her more recent care.
